Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based therapy designed to support the brain in processing and healing from distressing or overwhelming experiences. At times, difficult memories can become “stuck,” continuing to influence thoughts, emotions, and responses in the present. EMDR works by activating the brain’s natural processing system using bilateral stimulation (such as guided eye movements or tapping), allowing these memories to be integrated in a way that reduces their emotional intensity.

EMDR is a structured yet flexible approach that is always guided by your readiness. At Oak Haven Psychology, sessions are paced with care to ensure you feel safe, supported, and in control throughout the process.

What can EMDR help with?

  • Anxiety, phobias, and panic

  • Distressing memories

  • Negative self-beliefs (e.g., shame, guilt, low self-worth)
